The Bathing Girl’s Review in Galveston, Texas was organized by Willett R. Roe and the Galveston Beach Association beginning in 1920 as an effort to promote tourism. In 1926 the event was expanded to include the International Pageant of Pulchritude, the first international beauty contest and the first to crown a Miss Universe.
