Background Information Treherbert and Blaenrhondda were key stations on the Rhondda Fawr branch of the Taff Vale Railway, which was absorbed by the Great Western Railway during the grouping of 1922. By 1934, the GWR operated these lines primarily to serve the intense coal mining industry of the Rhondda Valley, though passenger traffic remained a vital secondary service.
