The Norfolk & Western Railway Company (N&W) was a major regional railroad serving the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-western areas of the US. Formed in 1838, it was the product of several hundred railroad mergers, to include such lines as the Nickel Plate, Virginian and Wabash railroads. The N&W served the area from Norfolk, Virginia westward to Kansas City and Omaha, including the major cities of Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. For auction is a rule book entitled "Agreement Between the Norfolk and Western Railway Company and Stationary Firemen and Shop Laborers Employed in the Mechanical Department"; it is dated September 1, 1949.
