For auction is a rule book from the Northern Pacific entitled "Safety Rules and Admonitions for the General Guidance and Protection of all Employees and the Public"; it is dated April 1, 1954. The book applied to all employees of the NP, whether or not they had train-related duties. Specific rules addressed those in train, engine and yard service; station, warehouse and storeroom employees; the Mechanical Department; cutting and welding; preparing or using molten metals or materials; manhole, well, trench, sewer, turntable pit or other excavations; ladders, scaffolds, trestles, and working at elevated positions; derricks, cranes, and roadway equipment; self-propelled trucks or tractors; much more.
