1981 N&W Norfolk & Western Railway railroad -- annual report

The Norfolk & Western Railway (N&W) was a major Class 1 railroad, formed from more than 200 smaller carriers. Among the lines merged into the N&W were the Wabash, Nickel Plate, Virginian and Akton & Canton. Its system stretched from Virginia and North Carolina westward into Iowa and Missouri. The N&W was a major hauler of coal, especially coal for export. For sale is a 1981 annual report from the N&W. This was the LAST annual report issued by the N&W prior to its merger with Southern Railway to form Norfolk Southern. It contains a review of the N&W's finances, a summary of its coal and merchandise traffic, operations and corporate developments, and an extensive statistical summary. The illustrated report measures appx 11 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches and contains 56 pages.
