It had been chartered in 1875, and its intended markets were the coal and steel industries in Western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia. It had various connections, among others, with the PRR, the B&O, the Erie, the Western Maryland, the Monongahela Railway, and the NYC.
