The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, doing business as "Amtrak", is a publicly funded railroad service operated and managed as a for-profit corporation. It began operations in 1971, to provide intercity passenger train service in the United States and assumed passenger routes and equipment previously operated by privately-owned railroads. Amtrak operates more than 300 trains each day on 21,300 miles of track. For auction is a passenger train timetable from Amtrak dated April 29, 1984; it lists all passenger trains operated by Amtrak nationwide. Trains are listed by run number and name, with run frequencies and departure times for stations served. One table covers northbound trains, while another has southbound trains. There is also a map of Amtrak's nationwide network.
