An original LNER series Carriage Print issued in the late 1940s/ early 1950s for display in railway carriages. The print survived from the railway stores in the late 1960s and is NOT a reproduction. River Allen, near Bardon Mill, Co. Durham [sic] River Allen shows very definitely that we all make mistakes. The full caption is “River Allen near Bardon Mill, County Durham”. County Durham is miles away; the location (and the whole of the River Allen) is well within Northumberland. The vantage point is so tucked away that perhaps someone in an office at York can be forgiven.
