It goes without saying that a real steam locomotive really steams. But the steam is not only emitted through the chimney. The cylinders are drained with hot steam. The first garden railway locomotives from the LGB company had a built-in steam generator. These models were identified by the letter D in the order number. The light plume of smoke was barely visible, especially outdoors. It took over 30 years until a steam generator from Massoth was installed on the Harz locomotive 99 7234, which smoked loudly in synchronization with the wheels. As a new feature in autumn 2014, Massoth introduced an additional module for wheel-synchronous cylinder steam for the first time (8413901). A three-way valve allows the smoke to be directed over the chimney and both cylinders with just one steam generat.
