The Ontario and Western Railway was founded in 1868 and remained in operation until 1957 when it was ordered liquidated by a U. S. bankruptcy judge. Founded in 1963, the Ontario & Western chapter of the National Railway Historical Society is devoted to the preservation of O&W history. One of its principal means is its journal, The Observer.
