This particular example depicts No.655 ‘Stepney’ in London Brighton & South Coast Railway Improved Engine Green. This famous locomotive was first introduced in December 1875 by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway as No. 55 ‘Stepney’, one of 50 built at Brighton Works to the design of William Stroudley for use on south London commuter trains.
