JR E4 Series Shinkansen MAX TOKI 8 Car EMU. Introduced in 1994, the E4 Series Shinkansen was Japan’s second-generation double-decker high-speed train, following the pioneering E1 Series. Typically operated in 16-car formations—two coupled 8-car sets—it could also run alongside other E4 Series trains and the E3 Series Yamagata Shinkansen “Tsubasa”.
