The darkness outside seemed to pulse in time with the rhythmic hum of the night shift at Backworth Loco Shed. It was a world where the sun dipped below the horizon, and the stars began their twinkling waltz across the velvet expanse.
As a Night Duty Photographer for one of the NCB Locos, I've had the privilege of capturing this magical realm in all its nocturnal glory. My camera lenses have witnessed the shed's secrets, from the gentle glow of lanterns to the rough-hewn beauty of ancient wooden beams.
I'm not just snapping images - I'm witnessing the heartbeat of the loco. The creaking of wooden joints, the hiss of steam, and the soft murmur of diesel engines all blend together in a mesmerizing symphony. And when the dawn breaks, the shed is bathed in a warm, golden light that seems to come from within.
My photos are more than just snapshots - they're a window into the world of railroading, where tradition meets innovation and the beauty of the night reigns supreme.
