This book tells the wonderful life story/autobiography of Roland Ruffell, an old school railwayman who spent the greater part of his life in the service of both the LNER and BR. The book accounts the trails and tribulations of working in an often dangerous environment, which includes near-death experiences. But which also has its lighter moments with more humourous abecdotes, and takes us around parts of the railway network which no longer exist. This would be of interest to those of an LNER/BR persuasion, and the twentieth century working life.
