Timothy Hawkworth’s "Sans Pareil" is prominent on the nearer line with Stephenson’s "Rocket" taking a back seat for a change, and the unconventional locomotive "Novelty" bringing up the rear. "Rocket" pulled a 13 ton load at an average speed of 12.4 mph over the whole distance and easily won the trials, the others either breaking down or otherwise withdrawing.
