Locomotives like No. 181 were familiar sights on the lines radiating from Houston toward Beaumont, Galveston, and the interior of East Texas. By 1930, these engines were nearing the end of their careers, gradually giving way to heavier Consolidations, Mountains, and Pacifics, making images of surviving Ten‑Wheelers in active service increasingly uncommon.
