Southern Railway "Southern Crescent" passenger train - dinner menu

The Southern Crescent was a passenger train operated by the Southern Railway System between Washington-Charlotte-Atlanta-Birmingham-New Orleans. It traces its origins to 1891. Southern ran the train into 1979, when operations were assumed by Amtrak. The Southern Crescent was renown for its meal service; all items were prepared on the trains by a seasoned and skilled work force. For auction is a "Dinner Menu" dated April 1976, Southern offered a "fixed price" menu with the choice of entrée (broiled fish, fried chicken, prime rib, omelet with chicken livers, sirloin steak); two sides; dessert; and beverage. The cost ranged from $4.25-7.50. A la carte selections included soups, sandwiches, bread, desserts and beverages.
