The Southwestern interest in the desert atmosphere (although a good portion of the area is in towering peaks) usually thought of by the tourist had not hit its stride sufficiently to “do Santa Fe”. The 100 mile plus trip did not induce many to enjoy the rather ho-hum areas the train encountered traveling south.
