An original LNER series Carriage Print issued in 1953 for display in railway carriages. The print survived from the railway stores in the late 1960s and is NOT a reproduction. Westcliff-on-Sea, (near Southend), Essex by Charles King Westcliff is closer into the centre of Southend than Leigh (which is also a subject for carriage prints). From the cliff top elevation the pier is evident. It is over a mile long, a length necessary to reach deep water and allow the steamers to berth. Evidently they were when King painted.
