For auction is a unique piece of British railroadiana - a lot of THREE pay cheque tokens from the former British Railways Western Division (BRW). The BRW was an operating region from 1948-1980. The region ceased to be an operating unit was wound up at the end of 1992. The Region consisted principally of former Great Western Railway lines. minus certain lines west of Birmingham which were transferred to the London Midland Region and with the addition of all former Southern Railway routes west of Exeter, which were subsequently rationalized. These pay check tokens, # 214, 222 & 355, were issued to employees as evidence that the employee was on the job and were exchanged at the paymaster's window for cash at the end of the work period. They date to the 1940s.Each token is made of thick brass.
