Photograph Notes: Clifton Rocks railway is a funicular railway, cleverly constructed in a tunnel bored through the rock of the Clifton Gorge in order to minimise the visual impact. It was opened in 1893 and operated for 40 years, losing slightly more money each year until closure in 1934.
